The Blues face Middlesbrough at Stamford Bridge on Monday evening knowing just two more wins will clinch their 5th Premier League title.
Boro are languishing second bottom in the league table and could have been relegated Monday if it wasn’t for Sunderland beating Hull today. They know realistically only a win will keep their survival hopes alive.
David Luiz and N’Golo Kante are the only injury doubts going into Monday nights game, but Thibaut Courtois will be available.
Luiz was replaced late on in last Sunday’s win at Everton and Kante has a thigh problem but both will be assessed before the match.
Conte said he is hopeful that Luiz hasn’t suffered a major injury.
“I didn’t speak to the doctor about his injury but I don’t think it’s a serious injury,” he said. “I hope he is available to play the next game.”
Chelsea have won each of their last six Premier League games against Middlesbrough without conceding a single goal.
Cesc Fabregas needs one more assist to reach 10 for the season. Should he do this, he’d be the first player to record 10 Premier League assists in six different seasons (Ryan Giggs and Wayne Rooney have both managed this in five seasons).
The Blues’ next win at Stamford Bridge will be their 300th in the Premier League, becoming just the third team to reach that milestone for Premier League home wins
Coming in to this round of games, this fixture sees the highest scoring Premier League team in 2016-17 (Chelsea – 72 goals) and the lowest scoring side (Middlesbrough – 26 goals, same as Sunderland).
Middlesbrough have mustered a league-low 93 shots on target this season in the Premier League. Chelsea have managed more than this in their home games alone (97).
Chelsea have already equalled the points tally of Leicester City in 2015-16 (81) and if they win their remaining four Premier League games they will reach 93 points. Only one team in the history of the Premier League has won more than this – Chelsea in 2004-05 (95 points).
Possible Line Ups
Chelsea: Courtois; Azpilicueta, Zouma, Cahill; Moses, Fabregas, Matic, Alonso; Pedro, Costa, Hazard
Middlesbrough: Guzan; Fabio, Chambers, Gibson, Friend; De Roon, Clayton, Forshaw; Downing, Negredo, Ramirez
Monday’s game has a special meaning for Chelsea. The current leader was handed a much bigger chance to win the Premier League title on after Tottenham’s 1-0 loss to West Ham. The distance between Chelsea and Tottenham is only four points, but the odds favour Antonio Conte and company.
Game: Chelsea vs Middlesbrough
O 3 -135
U 3 +115
Chelsea are very short odds on favourites to pick up all three points. The Blues can be backed as short as 2/13 to get the win. Middlesbrough are a sizeable price of 18/1 to upset the league leaders and the draw is available at 6/1.
After a decent 3-0 win last time out, the Chelsea handicap market offers much more value – where Chelsea (-2) is priced at 5/4. (Prices from Bet on Brazil – odds may fluctuate)
Is the match on TV?
The match will be televised live on Sky Sports 1 in the UK from 7pm.
Chelsea look to have found form again after two defeats in the space of four games last month. Middlesbrough are really struggling but are fighting for their life in the relegation zone so they’ll be going for it.
Tottenham losing 1-0 at West Ham on Friday night means the Blues need just two more wins for the title.
We predict Chelsea will win comfortably, Diego Costa, Pedro and Cahill to score the goals.
