Bayer Leverkusen are refusing to let go of their talent Leon Bailey easily after a £22m bid from Chelsea was rejected despite the player’s eagerness to move to the Premier League.
The Mirror reported on Sunday that not only did Chelsea have an offer rejected for the player but rivals Arsenal have stepped up their chase in signing the 20-year-old. The tabloid believes that the Gunners could pay £30m for Bailey.
The Jamaican has already shown his talents since joining Leverkusen, scoring eight goals in 26 appearances. This has put many Premier League clubs on alert with Manchester United also showing an interest in the player.
When speaking to German newspaper Bild, Bailey admitted his ambitions of playing in the English top-flight.
The Metro quotes Bailey saying:
“Of course I have a dream club, but I will not tell. Basically England was and still is my dream. If I keep working hard, I’m sure it will work someday.”
Does Chelsea need a player with the profile of Bailey?
Many Blues fans would agree that a signing of a winger should be a priority for the club this month. However, signing a wonderkid that has great potential may not be best for Chelsea at the moment.
Antonio Conte wants drastic improvement in his squad so signing a player that has been there and done it would suit us more.
Riyad Mahrez is constantly linked with top six clubs in the Premier League and would be a great fit.
What would the potential signing of Bailey also do to a player like Charly Musonda’s confidence?
