Atletico Madrid ace suffers injury setback with Chelsea on the horizon

Atletico Madrid ace Yannick Carrasco has been deemed as a possible absentee for the club’s UEFA Champions League clash against Chelsea in Bucharest due to an injury, which the club elaborated as a ‘post-traumatic injury of the left leg musculature’.

According to the club’s official statement: “Carassco has suffered a leg injury (as mentioned above), an MRI scan and a medical ultrasound performed at the Clínica Universidad de Navarra confirmed. The Belgian is pending response to treatment.”

Speaking to the press ahead of Atletico’s clash against Levante, in quotes picked by beIN Sports coach Diego Simeone said:

“Yannick has a knock from the game against Granada. It’s still affecting him. He was substituted because we wanted to protect him (against Levante on Wednesday). We’ll see how it evolves.”

The forward picked up a knock against Granada in a 2-1 victory for Atletico and played through it in a 1-1 draw with Levante, a decision that undoubtedly aggravated his injury.

He is definitely ruled out for the Rojiblancos’ repeat encounter against Levante at the Wanda Metropolitano.

Chelsea will however breathe a sigh of relief as Atletico enter the clash without one of their main playmakers.
