Has Cesc Fabregas just taken a sly dig at Chelsea and international teammate Alvaro Morata? It certainly looks like it.
Fabregas has had a decent enough season. He’s created 79 chances in the Premier League this season, but just four of those have resulted in a goal.
He’s doing his job, but the players ahead of him are not. Fabregas recognises this shortfall, and has not shied away from putting it under the spotlight.
He’s quoted by the Daily Star saying:
“I think the biggest regret maybe this season has been not taking our chances.”
“Oli [Giroud] is helping us a lot in certain things that maybe we were lacking.”
Fabregas mentions the impact of January signing Olivier Giroud, but there’s no comment on Morata. Cesc’s compatriot has been missing chance after chance this term and has subsequently fallen in the estimations of the fans.
It looks as though his teammates may well have grown equally frustrated with his inefficiencies, and who could blame them?
Morata needs to look himself in the mirror and accept, irrespective of the injury problems he’s suffered through this term, he needs to do better.
