Cesc Fabregas has joked that he would score 40-goals a season if he had the physical attributes of Chelsea winger Eden Hazard.
Fabregas was a far more dynamic player during his time as an Arsenal player. He scored 19 goals in all competitions back in the 2009/10 campaign.
The Spaniard also found the back of the net 42-times during his three-years he spent at Barcelona following his return to the Catalan giants.
He has, however, been unable to replicate that goal-scoring form in a Chelsea shirt. Fabregas scored just three goals in 49 appearances last season.
Now 31-years-old, Fabregas finds himself in a deeper role. His purpose to the side is to dictate the tempo and play incisive passes, rather than look to get on the scoresheet himself.
He still believes that he has the goal-scoring touch, though. According to Fabregas himself, all that stands between him and the Golden Boot is Eden Hazard’s pace.
Fabregas is quoted by the Express saying:
I tell him [Hazard’ sometimes jokingly that ‘if I had your physical abilities, I would be scoring 40 a season. You can go past everyone and I can’t’.”
“I have to play in a different way, but he has the speed, strength and talent – he has everything.”
Perhaps if Fabregas spends the summer on the treadmill we may not need to invest in a new centre-forward this summer…
