Both Chelsea and the Metropolitan police have opened investigations into alleged racial abuse suffered by Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling at Stamford Bridge yesterday.

The occasional bit of lip from rival fans is nothing new in football, especially in a game of this magnitude. With emotions running high and passion for fans’ beloved clubs coming to fore, insults, to an extent, can be forgiven.

Racism cannot. Not under any circumstances. No exceptions.

During our 2-0 win over City on Saturday evening, a video went viral on Twitter which appeared to show at least one Chelsea fans launching a racially motivated verbal attack on Sterling. See footage of the incident below.

You can form your own opinions on what you believe the man is saying, but what we will tell you is that the incident is being taken very seriously in West London. Sky Sports report that both Chelsea and the Met Police have begun their investigations.

Considering the unambiguous nature of the video, we expect that action will be taken on the individual in a swift and severe manner
