Thomas Tuchel made Chelsea history on the night his team dispatched an underwhelming Atletico Madrid by two goals to nil, registering a 3-0 aggregate whitewash against the Spanish league leaders and proceeding to the final eight of the Champions League.
With the victory, the German manager now holds the record for the longest unbeaten start to a managerial career in the club’s history – 13 games.
He also has gone ten games unbeaten in the Premier League, only next to Maurizio Sarri’s 12 match run in the 2018/19 season and Frank Clark’s unbeaten 11 games to begin Nottingham Forest’s 1994/95 season. (premierleague.com)
He stands third in the list of undefeated starts in the league. With West Brom, Crystal Palace and Brighton next up in the top-flight, it only looks likely Tuchel will break Sarri’s record.
Under him, the Blues have scored 15 goals and conceded just two goals – keeping 11 eleven clean sheets throughout. (transfermarkt)
Chelsea march into the quarter-finals high on morale, for the first time in seven years since the 2013/14 season, after getting the better of Diego Simeone’s men.
The club’s next opponents will be decided on 19th March, Friday, in the quarter-final & semi-final draw which will be staged in UEFA’s Nyon headquarters.
