Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta warns of complacency ahead of Everton clash

Cesar Azpilicueta’s form of late in marshalling Chelsea’s defence has been remarkable. The captain has overseen a sturdy back-four alongside the likes of Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen, Ben Chilwell and Reece James.

Thiago Silva’s presence in the back line has surprisingly not been missed since he injured against Tottenham last month.

After the crucial win over Liverpool midweek, Azpilicueta warned him teammates that they cannot be complacent with the season nearing its end. Speaking to chelseafc.com, he said

“We know there are still a lot of games to play. When you get closer and closer, every game is so important because it’s more difficult to get back if you lose points.”

Speaking on the 1-0 win over Liverpool, he said:

“We are very happy to beat Liverpool, a rival we are fighting with to get into the top four, and to get a clean sheet again.”

Next up are Everton, who pose a threat to Chelsea’s top-four hopes. Ancelotti’s men have themselves seen an upturn in form, going three games unbeaten in the league.

Speaking of the clash against their next Merseyside rivals, he said:

“The team is improving and we’re looking forward to the future but on Monday we have another challenge against Everton so now it is well done for the team but we have to focus only on that.”
