Maurizio Sarri is reportedly just a matter of days away from becoming Chelsea manager.
Sarri has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge for several months now. As soon as it became clear that Antonio Conte’s time in SW6 was coming to an end, Sarri was considered the frontrunner to replace him.
There have been reports in recent weeks that Chelsea have gone cold on Sarri following the unearthing of the controversies of his past.
It’s not like us to consider morality when appointing managers, though. Conte was involved in a match-fixing scandal during his time in Italy. Jose Mourinho is Jose Mourinho.
Either way, it looks as though Sarri’s move to Chelsea is back on. As the Daily Star report, Italian journalist Matteo Pedrosi claims that it could be just a matter of days before his appointment.
Sarri is thought to be Roman Abramovich’s first choice to replace Conte, and this week could prove decisive. One way or another, we should know more by the start of the World Cup.
