Marcos Alonso has confirmed that he has no interest in leaving Chelsea, report the Express.
Spanish publication AS linked both Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid with a move for Alonso late in the summer transfer window.
Of all the clubs in the world to make a move for the Spaniard, Real Madrid would be one of the most nonsensical. They already have arguably the best left-back on the planet in Marcelo.
Regardless, speculation linking two of the biggest teams in the world with a move for one of your prize possessions doesn’t exactly inspire a peaceful mind.
Sleep easy, though, Chelsea fans. Alonso has now confirmed that the prospect of leaving Chelsea never crossed his mind.
Alonso is quoted by the Express saying:
“I’ve never been away from Chelsea this summer, I’m very happy there.”
“Unless the club wanted to sell me, my wish is that to stay, the day I decide to retire from football I will return to Spain, but now I have a three year contract with Chelsea and I am very happy there.”
Alonso is not the most reliable defensively, but his effectiveness going forward is almost unparalleled. He’s a real threat in the opposition’s final third, as he continues to reaffirm with his performances.
He polarises opinions, but whichever side of the fence you reside on, we’re sure that Alonso’s commitment will be considered good news.
