Chelsea legend Gianfranco Zola’s agent has commented on rumours that the Italian could be set to link-up with Maurizio Sarri as part of his backroom staff at Stamford Bridge.
Zola is one of the best players ever to pull on a Chelsea shirt. The prospect of him returning to the club is one that every Chelsea fan could get behind.
With Antonio Conte on the brink and Maurizio Sarri thought to be leading the race to replace him, Zola’s return could fast become more than just a pipe-dream.
Zola is currently working as a pundit on South African TV, but it looks as though he’d be prepared to drop that in a heartbeat if Chelsea came knocking.
Zola’s agent, Fulvio Marrucco, informed Calcio Napoli 24 that he is yet to be in contact with Chelsea over the possibility of his client’s return, but Zola is thought to be welcoming to the idea of moving back to SW6:
“There have not been contact with Chelsea or with Sarri’s staff. The first step is to find an agreement between Conte and Chelsea for the contract termination, then Sarri needs to sign.”
“Zola is very happy about the rumours. His managerial idols are Guardiola and Sarri. Working with Maurizio would be a fantastic thing. For him, it would be a return home, as Chelsea is home away from home for Zola.”
Let’s wait and see how this situation unfolds…
