The World Cup is taking up a lot of attention right now – but in the background time is ticking down until Xabi Alonso takes over at Chelsea.
A long read from the Daily Mail today has shed some light on what the Basque could be about to bring to the Blues. The piece focuses on quotes from Marcel Daum, Alonso’s former analyst at Bayer Leverkusen, and they should be enough to get any fan excited.
Alonso “an expert in reading the game” according to former colleague

“For me, it’s crystal clear that he will be successful at Chelsea,” Daum said.
“It will be complicated for the other opponents to know in games what he will change, adjust, do. Very complicated.
“At the same time, for Chelsea, it will become a big, big, big strength… his in-game coaching is absolutely excellent. He is the prototype of the modern tactical coach. An expert in reading the game.”
That is only one aspect of being a modern manager, but if he’s as good at the other stuff, we would really be on to a winner.
In other news…
Maxence Lacroix is getting closer and closer to Chelsea, with the club ready to start negotiating with Crystal Palace over a fee.
Trevoh Chalobah continues to be linked with moves away from Chelsea, with multiple teams in Serie A apparently looking into signing him.
