Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek has insisted that he will remain patient while waiting for his opportunities to come under Maurizio Sarri.

Loftus-Cheek excelled while on loan at Crystal Palace last season. His inclusion in Gareth Southgate’s England squad which he took to the World Cup was testament to how good his performances were at Selhurst Park.

Though just 22-years-old and still raw, Chelsea have deemed Loftus-Cheek ready to compete for game-time in the first-team squad. As a result, he remained as part of Sarri’s squad over the summer and into the season.

Loftus-Cheek is yet to start a game this season, but has reiterated the need to wait patiently for his opportunities to come. He’s quoted by Sky Sports saying:

“I’d like to have more appearances by now, but it’s just the way my journey has gone, and I just have to be patient with it.”

“I can see it as a positive; I’m playing for England, playing well when I play, and that’s without too many appearances so it’s still raw in that sense.”

There will be chances for Loftus-Cheek to prove himself when the Europa League comes around, but whether that will be enough to convince him to stay beyond January remains to be seen.
