Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has slammed England number one Jordan Pickford after he failed to save a shot from former Manchester United winger Adnan Januzaj on Thursday evening.
Januzaj left Tottenham full-back Danny Rose for dead before unleashing a gorgeous curling effort into the top corner of Pickford’s goal. The Everton keeper was at full stretch, some way off the ground, but was unable to prevent the ball from nestling in the back of the net.
It didn’t look like there was anything that Pickford could have done to prevent the Real Sociedad attacker from scoring, but Courtois disagrees.
The Belgian has never been one to keep his mouth shut in the press. Courtois rarely shies away from sharing his opinion, which is often entertaining, but he probably should have bitten his tongue on his occasion.
Following the game, Courtois is quoted by the Daily Star needlessly tearing into England’s young goalkeeper:
“The goalkeeper is 10cm smaller than me. I would have caught it. He was too busy throwing his legs in the air.”
This isn’t the sort of comments we like to see about one professional to another.
