Antonio Conte’s time as Chelsea manager will soon be coming to and end, according to the Daily Mail.
When Conte arrived at Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2015, he was already considered one of the best managers in the world. His achievements with Juventus and the Italian national team saw his stock rise meteorically, which attracted the attention of Chelsea.
Having finished in tenth place in the 2015/16 campaign, Roman Abramovich will undoubtedly have been keen to see the Premier League crown return to West London as soon as possible. Having employed Conte, he got his wish.
However, with Chelsea all-but surrendering the title to Manchester City by Christmas time, and Conte continually airing his frustrations about failures in the transfer market, a major question mark has appeared over the Italian’s future in SW6.
As per the Daily Mail, Chelsea are resigned to losing Conte and the hunt for his successor has already begun. The report claims that Juventus boss Maximiliano Allegri and former Barcelona treble-winner Luis Enrique are both being considered by the club’s board.
As much as we hope that Conte stays on, it is good that Chelsea are preparing a contingency plan in case he does opt to depart.
