After a summer of speculation linking him with a move away from Stamford Bridge, Eden Hazard looks to be happy with life as a Chelsea player.
As Sky Sports report, rumours that Real Madrid were interested in signing Hazard refused to go away over the summer. Yet, a Chelsea player he remains, with the transfer window now being closed until the start of January.
As cliché as it may be, keeping hold of Hazard is as good a piece of business as any signing we could have made over the summer. He is the star performer at Stamford Bridge. Too often have we relied on his brilliance to pull us through the storm.
With Chelsea fending off Real Madrid’s supposed onslaught and ensuring Hazard stayed put, the Belgian has displayed a great deal of professionalism by getting his head down and working hard for the team.
Interviewed after our victory over Bournemouth, during which he scored his second of the season, Hazard is quoted by the Times revealing his contentment of life at Stamford Bridge:
“I’m feeling confident. I’m enjoying my football, we have a new manager and lots of good players.”
Hazard has scored two goals and provided two assists already in the Premier League this campaign, despite only featuring as a substitute during our opening pair of fixtures.
When you consider the figures that Dries Mertens and Lorenzo Insigne produced under the stewardship of Maurizio Sarri, you get the feeling that this could be the season where Hazard’s tally of direct goal contributions could do him justice.
