Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta has revealed his belief that the Blues can challenge on all fronts this coming season.
We have a squad which is full of title-winners. They know what it takes to go all the way, but we have to manage our expectations.
Not only is this Maurizio Sarri’s first season in the Premier League, but we’re also competing with one of the best teams ever to play in it – Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.
A realistic target for us would be Champions League qualification and a piece of silverware. We could kill two birds with one stone if we were able to lift the Europa League.
Azpilicueta is confident. After three wins out of three, the Spaniard has claimed that we have a squad capable of challenging this term. He’s quoted by the official Chelsea website saying:
“We know how tough it is to even qualify even for the Champions League. Manchester City created a big gap with the other teams, and it’s up to us to fight for the title.”
“Chelsea have our own pressure. We know we have won two of the last four Premier Leagues, and our standard is really high. We are in August, until May there is a big path to work, and we will see how far we can go.”
“After the international break we will be playing every three days. It changes completely with Europe, with the cups, and we have to be ready. We have a good squad and we have been working really hard with the manager. We have the level to fight for everything.”
It’s great to see Azpilicueta aiming high. He is well aware that the expectation at Chelsea is to deliver trophies. Let’s hope that this season is a successful one.
