Chelsea have been dealt a considerable blow in their reported pursuit of Napoli attacker Lorenzo Insigne.

According to The Sun, the Premier League champions were plotting a move to sign Insigne this summer if Eden Hazard sealed a move to La Liga heavyweights Real Madrid. However, it looks as though our pursuit of the Italy international has hit a bump in the road.

The Sun note that Chelsea were preparing to offer £45million to Napoli in exchange for Insigne, however, that figure does not appear to be enough to convince the Serie A giants to sell one of their prize assets

The Sun quote Insigne’s agent Della Monica, who reveals that £45million would not be sufficient to secure his client’s services, and Insigne is totally content with life in Naples:

“I would start by saying the offer reported in The Sun would be low. He has always been in the sights of many clubs. The priority for Lorenzo, though, is to be wearing the Napoli shirt and be rewarded in an important way by his team.”

Either Roman Abramovich will have to get his chequebook out and write a bigger number, or Antonio Conte will have to identify a plan B.
