Chelsea’s spending since 2010 has been revealed, and it’s the second highest in Europe in that period behind Manchester City.
As reported by the Express, Chelsea have forked out €1.31bn in that eight-year period, behind only Manchester City, who have splashed out €1.47bn.
That may seem like a great deal of cash, which it is, but it hasn’t been wasted. Chelsea have won two Premier League titles, the Champions League, Europa League and several more major trophies during that time.
The Blues broke their transfer record on three occasions over eight-years. Fernando Torres was signed from Liverpool in 2011, Alvaro Morata in 2017, and Kepa Arrizabalaga this summer.
On the flip-side, Liverpool have spent a reported €1.07bn and haven’t won anything of any significance. They’ll hit you with the ‘net spend’ argument, but the reality is they’ve wasted a tone of money and are only just beginning to recover from their failures in the market.
