Chelsea fans may feel as though we didn’t do sufficient business this summer, with neither a striker or a new winger being brought in, but we were actually the second biggest spenders in the Premier League throughout the course of the transfer window.
That’s based off of figures revealed by Sky Sports, who report that Liverpool were the only side to spend more than Chelsea in the summer market. Jurgen Klopp’s side invested £177M into the squad, with Marina Granovskaia splashing ‘just’ £128.6M.
That £128.6M outlay was on just the two players – Jorginho and Kepa Arrizabalaga. Both players look set to play pivotal roles in this new-look Chelsea side under Maurizio Sarri. The return on our investment will likely be worth the expenditure.
Chelsea were also responsible for two of the top five biggest transfers in the league. The aforementioned duo cost us £71.6M and £57M respectively. Signing the two of them was a real statement of intent from us. We are still a force to be reckoned with in the market.
