Former Chelsea midfielder Craig Burley isn’t entirely convinced that his former club can win away against Roma tonight, the Express reports.
Despite back-to-back league wins against Watford and Bournemouth, the Scotsman has raised doubts over whether Chelsea can beat the Italian side at the Stadio Olimpico.
Chelsea is currently top of Group C ahead of this tonight’s opponents and Atletico Madrid. However, in the reverse fixture, the Blues surrendered a 2-0 advantage to end up drawing 3-3 in a thrilling encounter.
When speaking for ESPN, Burley believes the strength Roma showed at Stamford Bridge has raised doubts over whether Chelsea can win tonight.
Burley is quoted by the Express saying:
“I’m honestly 50/50 as to whether that can happen or not, the way Roma played at Stamford Bridge. If they play the way they did in Madrid against Atletico, yes they can win it.”
Since the memorable 2-1 win away against Atletico, we have had poor results losing to Manchester City and Crystal Palace.
There’s no doubt we can win tonight if Chelsea can replicate a similar performance shown at the Wanda Metropolitano.
We were slight underdogs going into the match against Atletico as we are for this upcoming game. This could certainly work in our favour.
