Former Paris Saint-Germain manager Laurent Blanc has appeared to confirm that talks with Chelsea have fallen through.
Blanc was linked with the Chelsea managerial position when Antonio Conte’s future first came under the spotlight.
The Frenchman may well have been merely a contingency plan in case our other options fell through, but that didn’t prevent Chelsea fans from becoming concerned.
Blanc is not the calibre of manager we ought to be after. We need someone to revitalise our stagnant squad, not a man who has been out of work for two-years.
How genuine a target he was for Chelsea may never be known. Antonio Conte has returned to Chelsea to take pre-season training, and Blanc has all-but confirmed that he will not be replacing the Italian.
Blanc is quoted by GFFN confirming that he will not be in management come the start of next season – the opportunities did not arise:
“I hope [to manage again soon] but it won’t be when the new season starts, because the opportunities that I had did not become concrete. I am available. But it is not merely as easy as that.”
This is probably good news from a Chelsea standpoint…
