The Italian football federation have confirmed that Antonio Conte is one of their top targets to take the managerial position.

Conte held the reins for the Italian national team prior to becoming Chelsea manager, excelling at Euro 2016 with one of the worst Italy squads in recent years.

We all know what happened after he took the hot seat at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea were crowned Premier League champions once again after setting a new wins record for England’s top tier, as well as equalling the record for most consecutive victories in a single Premier League campaign.

Antonio Conte enjoyed a phenomenal debut campaign at Chelsea, winning the Premier League title.

After the departure of Gian Piero Ventura following Italy’s failure to qualify for the World Cup, the IFF (unsurprisingly) are keen to see Conte return.

President Carlo Tavecchio has revealed that they are looking to make a superstar appointment, and he has strongly insinuated that Conte becoming Italy boss for the second time would be the IFF’s best case scenario.

Tavecchio is quoted by the Independent saying:

“We are seeking the best. Allegri, Mancini, Ancelotti….these are the names, I say getting warmer. And Conte? Fire.”
