Mateo Kovacic has discussed the happiness he feels as a Chelsea player, thus furthering our chances of signing him permanently in the summer.
Kovacic has been used frequently by Maurizio Sarri this season in the third midfield position – ‘the Hamsik role’, if you like. Unfortunately for Sarri, Kovacic is on borrowed time at Stamford Bridge, seeing as our acquisition of his services was only temporary.
The Croat may well return to Real Madrid next season, especially seeing as there has been a change of management, he could finally get his opportunity to impress with Los Blancos.
A huge sum of cash should do the trick for us, but we need Kovacic to actually be keen to come to us, too. Thankfully, he is really happy in West London, as he has now revealed.
Kovacic is quoted by the Daily Mail saying:
“I wanted to be happy and at Chelsea I am.”
“I just wanted to be happy and play matches, feel a responsibility within the team and I’ve found that at Chelsea. This is not the time to talk about anything other than playing and enjoying.”
I don’t want to think about what will happen and do want to be happy doing what I like, which is to play football every week.”
We face a nervous wait for Kovacic’s decision on his future, and whether Real Madrid would have any interest in letting him go. We’ll provide updates on this situation as it develops.
