Chelsea are the early kick-off tomorrow, meaning that in just 24 hours Frank Lampard’s team will be public knowledge.
Despite the transfer ban, the arrival of a new manager and several new players means that there’s been a decent amount of chopping and changing through Lampard’s first few games in charge, and while we’re moving towards a settled team, there are still loads of questions still to be answered,
The primary puzzle is who he plays up front. There are three decent options in Olivier Giroud, Tammy Abraham and Michy Batshuayi, but none has made the spot their own yet. Could this be the chance Michy has been looking for, following two goals for the Dev Squad midweek?
There’s also the question of how to get Mason Mount and Christian Pulisic in the team together. It requires dropping Mason to the midfield 3 of a 433, or playing him in the hole of a 4231 which hasn’t been that successful yet. Either way, both have to play given their positive contributions so far.
Finally, at the back, the returning Antonio Rudiger is pushing for a game. Is it worth risking him already, and if so, who misses out, Kurt Zouma or Andreas Christensen? That’s a really hard one to call, but given Zouma’s error against Man U in our first game, we reckon he might be for the chop once Rudi is fit.
