Axel Disasi has no chance of getting back in Enzo Maresca’s plans – opinion

I think Axel Disasi gets a bad rep really. He’s never going to be our best defender and I’d never see him as more than deep rotation at Chelsea. But he has also been asked to play as a right back a lot in his recent career and he’s just very vulnerable there. Disasi is a centre back, and I actually think he’s a very solid centre back. He’s never going to be your best ball-playing centre back, but in terms of defensive actions and being a solid and reliable player who gives everything on the pitch, I don’t think he is as bad as many have made him out to be.

I’m not saying I want to keep him in the squad and I am absolutely still saying we should sell him as soon as possible. He’s not good enough for Chelsea. But I am just making the point that I don’t think he’s as bad as some believe him to be.

But anyway, with all of that said, I think he has very little chance of getting back in to Enzo Maresca’s thinking and in fact, I’d probably say he’s got almost zero chance of doing that and he should probably just spend his time finding a new club to go to in January.

I do feel for him though….

Foot Mercato explained this week that Disasi could have rejoined Monaco this summer, excited to come back and spoke with the ASM management, even to the point of finding a near-agreement.

But Chelsea had reached their loan quota and the operation could not succeed.

According to The BBC, Disasi is expected to train separately from the core first-team group – at least initially – but is ready if called upon by Chelsea.

The player reportedly plans to remain professional and committed, and is willing to play for the club again if asked.

He remains available and hopes to prove himself – albeit most likely from a separate building for now – but with a view to impress and get back into head coach Enzo Maresca’s thinking.

I think hope is all he has here.

If you look at the centre back options Chelsea have, then it would take a lot of injuries for Disasi to be called upon and to be honest, you’d even think Maresca would turn to the academy first. When you’re in the Chelsea ‘bomb squad’ then you’re in the Chelsea ‘bomb squad’.

Even with Levi Colwill injured, Benoit Badiashile is on the verge of returning. Then you have Trevoh Chalobah, Tosin Adarabioyo, Wesley Fofana, and Josh Acheampong all ahead of Disasi in the pecking order. I just can’t see it being a scenario.

IF it was a scenario and we got a lot of injuries, then it wouldn’t even give me fear. Disasi on the bench as cover is not something that would worry me. He’s a very strong centre back but just isn’t one who is good enough to be starting for Chelsea. It’s that simple for me.
