Chelsea have lost two solid midfield options this month and could live to regret allowing both Ross Barkley and Ruben Loftus-Cheek leave on loan.
However, playing devils advocate can be good for the soul, and Chelsea’s Billy Gilmour can prove to be VERY good for Frank Lampard’s soul this season.
The 19-year old had a breakthrough season in Lampard’s first season as Chelsea boss, and he really established himself as an important first team member.
Most notable was his Man of The Match performance against Liverpool in the FA Cup where he absolutely bossed a host of much more experienced Liverpool midfielders and even shone way above any other Chelsea players that day.
Gilmour has it all about his game, he is a complete midfielder. He can tackle, pass and shoot, and his versatility in midfield will really help Lampard this season especially after two key players departing from that area.
The soon to be full Scottish international makes the game look easy. He has a great long and short passing range, he is comfortable on the ball, he can dribble with it, and he loves a feisty challenge.
Watch the Liverpool highlights here to remind yourself of all this and just what type of player we can look forward to having back in the squad in around four weeks time when he finally returns to training.
