We were really excited about Ethan Ampadu’s loan to RB Leipzig, but things aren’t turning out like we’d hoped.
The combination of such a talented young football with a club known for developing and using under 21 stars seemed perfect. It was a high enough level that we would be tested against good players, but low enough that the 18 year old would start every game. But so far, it hasn’t worked out that way.
After featuring in a few friendlies in the summer, the Wales international has quickly fallen out of favour since the season has begun. In fact following his omission today, he’s not been in a matchday squad of any of the last three games for die Rote Bullen.

There’s still a lot of season left for him to turn things around, but clearly if he can’t even get on the bench right now, he’s got some way to go to get in the team.
In fact, despite having left to get some minutes rather than rot on the bench at Chelsea, he might well have played more time by staying with Frank Lampard. We look lacking in defensive midfield, and possibly at centre back too.
