Chelsea go into this summer transfer window without actually knowing whether they can sign players.
It will all depend on the results of CAS’ investigation into the transfer ban handed to us by FIFA.
If we could bring new players in, for one window at least, what would we prioritise?
The first need of this team is clearly a striker, there can be no doubt of that. Since Diego Costa left we’ve been scrabbling around with sub-par replacements, and that has been the weak point in the team for more than two years now.
After that, what is our second priority? There are holes all through the team, but we’d say that after a striker a central midfielder would have to be our priority. We actually have a lot of bodies in that area, but Danny Drinkwater is clearly not up to it, RLC is now out with a serious injury, and Maurizio Sarri is still waiting for the Fabregas replacement he was promised in January.
Third after that would probably be a centre back. David Luiz and Antonio Rudiger both showed good and bad sides this season, and we desperately need some quality competition for them.
Then there’s the need for more wingers with Eden Hazard likely leaving, and quality full-backs too… it’s going to be a very busy summer – if we can sign anyone.
