Those who operate in silence, often operate successfully.
This isn’t some intelligent quote from a philosopher or anything deep like that. This is simply something that I have learned over the years of my existence and I believe it can be super relevant for something like trying to buy a new football club worth £3Bn!
Some believe that the ones you should take most seriously, and the ones BEING most serious about buying Chelsea, are the ones who the most silent. And whilst this might not be total gospel, I do believe there is something in this that we should really take note of.
Stephen Pagliuca has been hugely silent until today. He hasn’t said a word. And in his long statement, which you can read in full below, he actually begins with addressing that fact and why he prefers to operate in silent. He felt the need to speak up, probably for us Chelsea fans more than anything else.
“Throughout my life and career, my ethos has always been to operate quietly, with integrity, and let my actions and results speak loudly,” Pagliuca said. “However, it is imperative to clarify and assure supporters about our bid group and its commitments, to emphasize how seriously we take our potential responsibility to Chelsea.”

Then obviously he went on with the usual PR, which is fully expected and I actually have no issues with at all. I prefer more transparency surrounding our bidders rather than total silence, and I get the importance of good PR, because it really does work.
But yes, we do need to keep a close eye on those operating in silence as well and they probably have just as good a chance as the rest of them. Martin Broughton’s consortium has also been operating largely in silence, so they are another one who could potentially come in and surprise us all.
It’s interesting to say the least, and I do respect those who prefer to move in silence even though at the same time, I do like to hear as much as possible about any potential new owners of our beloved club.
