Jeremie Boga staked his claim for a place in Antonio Conte’s first-team squad with a stellar performance against Arsenal at the Bird’s Nest Stadium.
The Frenchman was a cut above the majority of his counterparts as he progressed through the Chelsea youth ranks, and was given a shot in the professional game with Rennes in 2015.
After a successful home spell in his home country, he tried his luck in La Liga with Granada. Boga is now a Chelsea player once more and is touring the far east with the rest of Conte’s group.
During Saturday’s clash with Arsenal, Pedro was wiped out by Gunners ‘keeper David Ospina early on, Boga was brought onto the field of play, and immediately began to display his talent.
Though only 20-years-old, Boga was not phased by the Premier League regulars he was facing up against. Instead, he grabbed the opportunity with both hands and put on a show for the Chinese supporters.
He didn’t opt for the safe option, as many would, he went for the jugular time and time again. He terrorised Arsenal’s back-line.
Boga showed the Chelsea faithful, and Conte, that he is ready to be given an opportunity in the first-team. It is difficult to see what he could gain from another loan, he needs to be brought into the setup in West London.
Conte has shown previously that he is prepared to give youngsters an opportunity in cup games, and there will be plenty more minutes on offer next term, with Chelsea challenging in the Champions League once more.
We are keeping our fingers crossed that Conte sees what Boga can add to his squad, and shows faith in him – he is destined to go to the very top, he just needs the opportunity.
