Chelsea are continuing to be linked with all the big names in football as the new owners continue with their big squad rebuild and attempts to get Chelsea back to the very top of the game again.
As Chelsea fans, we don’t get too excited about these kinds of links, because we remember the same stories with players such as Erling Haaland. And of course, we all know where he ended up. So when we see a story like the one below on Jude Bellingham being a serious target for us, we keep very grounded, naturally.
I mean, Bellingham would be an unreal signing, but we are talking about a potential £150m fee for one player. I love the ambition being shown, and I do believe that we will need to make a few massive signings such as this one to bring us back challenging at the very top again. I’m all for it.
However, I don’t think that we should be getting used to these kinds of signings and neither would it be wise for us to be continuing down this road in the future. I don’t even think we will be either. I believe that Chelsea will be having two or three more big transfer windows, and then I think they will be looking to balance that out with sustainable recruitment and business, meaning making smart signings and smart sales.
Chelsea will need to be sustainably run soon, and that will mean not dropping £150m on one player and rather buying two or three players with that money. Players who have been heavily scouted, heavily watched, and heavily research via data, players we know are the exact profile and personalities we need at the club, that is very much going to be the way forward eventually.
Will we even get Bellingham? I highly doubt it. But the ambition, as I said, is great to see right now. We do need that now.
