As I sit here and watch another Chelsea academy graduate speak on a press conference ahead of playing a Champions League match against Juventus, I not only ponder just how much quality our academy is bringing through, but I also note just how good their attitudes are collectively.
Every player that comes through Chelsea’s academy seems to be built different, they play and carry a real maturity alongside the quality in their performances.
When you look back, they all have elite mentalities, and as well as parents, guardians, and advisors rightly taking a lot of credit for bringing them up the right way, the academy staff and coaches must also share some of that credit helping them mature into top professionals along the way. Being in the Chelsea academy as a staff member is more than just about being a football coach. You are helping nurture these young kids.
Most of these players are very young kids when they join the club at just 8-years old, but just look at some of the names out there making it at Chelsea right now and there is a reoccurring theme.
Players like Chalobah, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Reece James, Mason Mount, Conor Gallagher, Tammy Abraham and many more, whenever they speak they are already very wise souls, they are already super mature and showing a great intelligence when they talk. They have top level attitudes and mentalities, and that is exactly what Thomas Tuchel and Roman Abramovich wants.
Tuchel always speaks about attitude, and he did so again today in his press conference, which you can read the full transcript for at Si & Dan Talk Chelsea.
“First and most important he is a huge football fan he is in love with the game and wants to know everything that is going on here and we keep him informed and this is most important and makes things special,” Thomas Tuchel said of Roman Abramovich today.
“For this he wants to be entertained and be competitive and have the right attitude on the pitch and this is what he created here and it’s amazing.”
Chalobah and the rest of the lads I’ve mentioned are always staying grounded and humble, and what a testament to their character and maturity, this will only help them become top players for many years to come going side by side with their clear talent and quality.
