(Opinion): Chelsea should take advantage of Dortmund situation with more than just Haaland

Chelsea are pursuing Erling Haaland this summer, as per multiple reliable reports.

Whether they get him or not hinges on many factors.

Chelsea have colossal Inter Milan defender ‘high’ on their list of summer targets, read more here.

Whether other clubs make their moves, whether other clubs can even afford to buy him during a pandemic, whether he decides he even wants to go to Chelsea, whether Chelsea want to pay his high wages and agents fees, and perhaps most importantly especially for this article, whether Dortmund qualify for the Champions League or not this season.

Yesterday it was revealed that after announcing a financial loss of £23m in the second half of 2020 because of the pandemic, Dortmund’s hierarchy has compiled an “emergency list” of players who could be sold if they don’t qualify for the Champions League, per The BBC.

Dortmund are currently in sixth place in the Bundesliga, six points off a Champions League place. We all know how much money even qualifying for this competition brings and how important it is for clubs finances.

Yes, Haaland is on this ’emergency list’ and Chelsea must absolutely break the bank to get him.

But there are a couple of other players on that same list that if Chelsea can pick them up for a reasonable fee as well, should be looking to get.

I believe that due to the injuries issues constantly facing Christian Pulisic, Chelsea have a decision to make on him this summer, and Thomas Tuchel even touched on this in his latest press conference just today.

There are also some early doubts over Hakim Ziyech’s future under Tuchel.

With that in mind, I’d go and sign Jadon Sancho. Yes I know this is not FIFA, but if an opportunity arises to sign top class talent, we must at least consider it.

Chelsea have a chance to make very good money themselves from player sales this summer, and we know that they are one of the few clubs who are financially stable even through the pandemic. So money is not an issue.

Jude Bellingham is the other player who I might be tempted to have a look at signing from Dortmund under these circumstances.

The 17-year old has always been on Chelsea’s radar, so a chance to buy him may arise now sooner rather than later, and he really is the total complete all-round midfielder and can bring a lot to our team.

As for Sancho, he needs no words.

Simon dont you think it’ll be too early to sell Pulisic if we decide to do so in the summer?
