AC Milan want to use their option to buy Fikayo Tomori from Chelsea this summer, but they do not want to pay the agreed fee, according to Sky Sports.
Technical Director Paolo Maldini wants to hold talks with Chelsea regarding bringing the agreed £26 million option to buy down.
We also just sat down with Tony Mount, the Father of Mason, who provided us with some great insights and opinions here.
Best of luck with that Paolo!
Now don’t get me wrong, you have ALL my respect for being one of the best defenders to play the game, but seriously, have you never heard of Marina Granovskaia?
I believe the £26 million was there for a reason, to either see Chelsea keep a very good defender, or if they do have to give him up they would be getting a decent fee for him. I think there is more chance of water being dry than Granovskaia accepting discount on the option to buy.
And to be fair, £26 million for Tomori is not expensive. A 23-year old England international who has now found good form after getting needed game time, you could easily look to pay over £35 million for such a player, I think Milan would end up regretting it if they chose not to use it and he will actually be known as a bargain.
If they do decide not to buy him without any discount from Marina (ha ha!), then Chelsea will be the ones benefiting the most.
I have always rated Tomori as a top-class defender, I just think he always needed to iron out a couple of small issues that is only done with game time, and happens with all young players.
So please, Paolo, ask for your discount and do not budge!
