We have all been heavily reliant on Roman Abramovich leaving our beloved club in safe hands when he leaves, but we also though that had been taken away from us when he was sanctioned.
However, this is not the case according to an article published today by The Athletic. They claim that Roman Abramovich still has a say in the Chelsea sale process and the Russian wants Chelsea to go to a group or individual with a proven track record, a vision for the club and easy access to funds.
This is great news for Chelsea fans and staff, or at least you would hope it is. There are some very controversial parties involved in bidding for the club, with Woody Johnson and The Ricketts Family topping that list. If Abramovich ‘reads the room’ as such, he will see that there is not a single Chelsea fan who would want either of these two be our new owners, and you would hope that our reactions/views will make a difference judging by how much he has loved this club and it’s fanbase over the last 20 years.
We will all be putting our trust in him now to do this one last amazing thing for our club and make sure he leaves us in safe hands and not someone who will turn us into a ‘franchise’ and have a history of controversial comments and stories written about them.
At least, this is what we would hope anyway. We have to believe that Roman will pick the right one, and this news makes me at least a bit more hopeful that he will do this rather than just leaving it to Raine Group or the UK Government to decide.
