Ross Barkley bagged two for England yesterday, after having come on and impressed in their last game too.
It continues a run of good form he’s shown whenever he’s been unleashed in the Europa League this season. And, again, we must bear in mind that this was Montenegro he did so well against.
But it shows that he’s still got that ability in his locker, when the players around him and the system allow him to.
With Maurizio Sarri, he seems too reluctant to play in an attacking way when he’s in the first team, maybe because of instruction, or maybe just because of a mental block that makes him be overly cautious when he’s given first team reps against strong opposition.
Either way, hopefully another good showing with his country will have raised his morale and given him the momentum he needs going into a run with a lot of games against weaker opposition.
If he scores a couple in the next few league games and win us some points, he can say his Chelsea career is going pretty well.
