Ruben Loftus-Cheek was the man who got the winner yesterday, and there was nobody more fitting.
He made a mockery of the fact that Maurizio Sarri hadn’t picked him in a team which even excluded N’Golo Kante.
Assuming Ruben is fit to start games, and Sarri isn’t under instruction to leave him on the bench, there is just no excuse for not having called on him from the start today.
What more does he have to do? Every time he plays he’s great, and he’s the kind of goal threat we need in the middle of the pitch. Barkley did well for England, but he’s not as threatening, and against a team that was going to be solid and defensive like Cardiff, a threat in the air like RLC was always going to be a key factor.
In the end it came down to Willian finally delivering a worthy ball, and there being enough weight of numbers in the box to leave our man in the middle free.
