Maurizio Sarri was strikingly reluctant to put Callum Hudson-Odoi into this Chelsea team, and we feel he’s like to try and dump him now he has a chance.
The Italian coach could no longer resist the pressure from the fans and the media to give the kid some games, and he played so well that he eventually forced the former Napoli boss into starting him in a truly big game against Liverpool last week.
Hudson-Odoi was poor, and now we fear that Sarri will use that as grounds to put him back on the bench against Burnley tonight.
His fears about the youngster, that he lacks the tactical and defensive discipline to play regularly against bigger teams, were somewhat proven right against Liverpool, where Callum just couldn’t get into the game.
To be fair to the kid, he was up against one of the best teams in Europe last time out, and the chance to take on Burnley at home is much more appealing. Let’s hope that Sarri shows a little patience with the 18 year old this time around.
Without a manager willing to put his faith in the youngster, he’s never going to develop into the player he can become.
