Chelsea’s preseason is underway, and today’s footage from Chelsea’s official club channels has shown the full group of 30+ getting stuck into the first organised games of the season.
It’s a hectic mix of returning loanees, young players and established first team regulars.
Forgotten players like Lucas Piazon and Izzy Brown compete with talented youngsters like 18 year old Billy Gilmour for positive glances from their new coach Frank Lampard. Everyone feels like they have a chance to impress the new manager, and nobody wants to be sent on a dodgy loan to somewhere cold.
The friendly tomorrow will give lots of these players a chance to impress in more competitive settings, but some won’t even minutes at any point this week.
Our opposition will be motivated too. For them this is a chance to take on the very best and take a rare chance to have the world’s attention on them. It will hopefully be a competitive game, with both teams motivated to do well.
Of course second half subs will disrupt thing as always, but even those who come on will want to hare around and try and do something positive when they come on.
We’re not sure who will impress, but that’s the fun part about this weird early section of the season. Some guy you’ve forgotten about comes on and gets an assist for Olivier Giroud. A defender from Vitesse gives away a penalty.
It’s all part of the Chelsea experience really.
