The Italian press were reporting on Chelsea yesterday, with SportWitness picking up and translating some of the quotes from the continent for us to enjoy.
It was an interesting angle on transfers past rather than future, relating to Andreas Christensen. The young Dane was being chased by Juventus in January, and had agreed some level of deal with the Italians to join in the winter.
Chelsea, of course, shut the whole thing down, and wouldn’t even contemplate seeing their young talent go. The news today that we may indeed face a two window transfer ban makes that decision look smarter than ever.
If we really can’t register any new players, with David Luiz and Gary Cahill on their last legs, thank God we have a Premier League quality defender who has come through the youth system ready to step up.
We already saw the way the club stonewalled Bayern’s bids for Callum Hudson-Odoi, quite publicly. Now we know they did the same to Juventus, without the fans knowing what went on behind the scenes.
