Why Chelsea’s friendly against Brentford second team matters for young talents’ futures

The training camp Frank Lampard has had in Ireland this week was attended by an almost ridiculous quantity of players, now slashed by 8 as some youngsters returned to England.

The full list included centre back Marc Guehi and Dujon Sterling, who started against Bohemians on Wednesday. Trevoh Chalobah, Izzy Brown, Ike Ugbo, Conor Gallagher and Lewis Baker also departed.

Lucas Piazon is also believed to have gone back to England, but there is some dispute about whether he will go to Japan with the rest of the first team squad.

Many of these lads were only getting their first minutes of preseason against the Irish side, and they’ve kept that run going with a friendly against a Brentford B side, who they are currently beating 2-0.

Fresh off the plane from the Emerald Isle, Izzy Brown drilled in a a penalty, and Trevoh Chalobah nodded one in from a corner.

All of these 8 seem like the first wave looking for loans, so these kind of games matter a lot, in terms of deciding once and or all whether they will stay at the club; or where they will head on loan.
