The Chelsea official Twitter account yesterday made fans of the club deliriously happy when they announced that N’Golo Kante was travelling with the squad to Germany for the final preseason friendly against Borussia Monchengladbach.
The teams are about to come out, and we frankly hope that Kante isn’t included.
Why? Of course we love Kante, and appreciate that he’s maybe out best player. But this niggling injury which has been affecting him since the end of last season and has prevented him from taking part of preseason isn’t going away.

It’s already been aggravated by repeated early returns, and the worst thing we could do would be to do that again.
Even if he gets some solid minutes against Monchengladbach today (we expect to see him off the bench at best), there’s no reason to start him at Old Trafford next weekend. We can win without him, and a half-fit Kante won’t be much use anyway.
We have a wealth of talent in central midfield, and while none offers the same defensive skillset or the same ability as Kante to win the ball, there’s enough quality to win a game against a Manchester United team that are incredibly up and down.
Let’s keep him in cotton wool for another week. Losing him for another extended spell could really hurt our prospects this season.
