Chelsea appear to have lost out to Atletico Madrid in the race to sign AS Monaco winger Thomas Lemar.
As the London Evening Standard report, Chelsea were keeping tabs on the Frenchman, with a host of our fellow Premier League clubs also thought to be interested. Arsenal came closest to signing him, but in true Arsenal fashion, the transfer never materialised.
Anyone still hoping to sign Lemar will have to consider alternative options, as Atletico Madrid have confirmed they have reached an agreement with AS Monaco to sign the 22-year-old.
The London Evening Standard’s report claims that Atletico will pay a fee in the region of £55M to sign Lemar. Chelsea must not have thought him worthy of that hefty price-tag.
With Pedro heading over the hill, and Willian not getting any younger, we’ll soon need to draft in a new winger. Lemar will not be that man, though, he’s off to the Wanda Metropolitano.
