Chelsea are said to be in contention to land Lyon central defender Mouctar Diakhaby as replacement for David Luiz.

The 20-year old has drawn attention to himself after his remarkable season at Lyon  helping them progress in Europe and place third in the Ligue 1 table. The Daily Mail reports that Chelsea are front runners for the signature of the defender, who is said to be a target for Manchester City as well.

The report by the MailOnline claims that Chelsea are looking to bring the 20-year old to bolster Conte’s defensive line, especially as Luiz does not appear to be on good terms with the coach anymore.

Luiz was not part of the squad that secured all three points against Manchester United last weekend as tension between himself and his manager skyrocketed ahead of the game, as reported by The Sun.

With Antonio Rudiger struggling to pick up his old Roma form and Gary Cahill failing to stamp his authority on this Chelsea back line, Conte will be wanting more options – and Diakhaby might be his man.

Chelsea are very likely to face competition from Manchester City, who are also thought to be strong admirers of the rising star.
