Chelsea have reportedly lodged an enquiry to Bayern Munich about the possibility of signing Thiago Alcantara this summer.

The Spaniard’s time at the Allianz has been marred by injury. When fit, though, he’s one of the best midfielders in the world.

With Chelsea already adding Jorginho to our midfield ranks this summer, you could be forgiven for thinking that Thiago would be a non-necessity.

There’s always room for players of his calibre at Stamford Bridge, however. He’d be welcomed with open arms by both Maurizio Sarri and the fans.

How genuine our interest in signing him is unclear at this stage, but ESPN believe that we have enquired as to the possibility of Bayern allowing him to leave.

Manchester United are also thought to be keen, but Thiago’s about as far away from a Jose Mourinho player as they come. He’s a disciple of Pep Guardiola.

Let’s wait and see if this one develops.
