Chelsea are going into another game with big questions in central midfield. Enzo Fernandez is gone, Moises Caicedo is injured, Romeo Lavia and Reece James are not elite central midfielders and Malo Gusto is… Malo Gusto.
It’s not surprise that the Blues interest in new players in the midfield is continuing to be talked about, and in this case there’s a good chance that they make a move in January. A report for Fabrizio Romano’s Daily Briefing today contains an update on the status of Adam Wharton, a long term target.
Wharton surely set for top 6 move after this season
Crystal Palace are going to ask huge money for Wharton, but Chelsea get more and more data on whether it would be a good move with every passing season.
The other important factor is Man City, who have taken themselves out of the midfielder race by spending £300m or so on three new options this summer.
Could a January move be on the cards? Romano doesn’t discount it, but it feels like a long shot, as does the £80m price tag cited.
