Chelsea could make a surprise move to sign Brighton goalkeeper David Stockdale in the summer transfer window, according to The Sun.
The Sun report that Chelsea made a move to sign Stockdale in January, but a move never materialised. The tabloid now, however, report that Asmir Begovic is set to move to Bournemouth in an £8million deal, which would leave the Blues in need of a new reserve goalkeeper.
According to The Sun, Stockdale’s contract expires at the end of the season, and talks between him and Brighton over an extension have collapsed. That would allow him to move on a free transfer in the summer window.
Stockdale could well prove to be a shrewd acquisition. As The Sun note, he was the runner up in Brighton’s player of the year vote, having been an integral part of their stellar campaign.
If he is willing to play second fiddle to Thibaut Courtois at Stamford Bridge, we may well see Stockdale in a Chelsea shirt next season.
