Chelsea reportedly have a plan to give their front-line a major makeover this summer without splashing hundreds of millions of pounds on a new centre-forward.
It’s clear to see that the area we desperately need to invest in this summer is at the spearhead of our attack. Alvaro Morata has fallen short of expectations. Olivier Giroud’s emergence as a starter in Antonio Conte’s side is testament to that.
Michy Batshuayi remains an option, but it is yet to be seen whether the club have faith in him to come back and make an impact. Chelsea being Chelsea, we may look to cash-in while his stock is still high following a superb loan spell with Borussia Dortmund.
According to Spanish radio station Cadena Ser (via Calciomercato), Chelsea are interested in signing Inter Milan goal-machine Mauro Icardi. It’s claimed that the Blues are preparing a player plus cash deal involving Alvaro Morata and £35M for the Argentine.
Cadena Ser report that Roman Abramovich is keen on signing Icardi, but has little interest in paying his £87M release clause. As a result, Morata could be used as a makeweight in the deal. Inter are thought to be keen on keeping Icardi, but ultimately the player will make the decision on his future.
