Real Madrid’s interest in Paris Saint-Germain superstar Neymar could send midfielder Marco Asensio to Chelsea this summer.
That’s according to Spanish publication El Gol Digital, who report that Asensio is aware his chances of getting minutes at the Santiago Bernabeu will become even smaller if Neymar arrives.
The Spaniard proved his worth as part of Zinedine Zidane’s squad last season. As is the nature of being a Real Madrid player, competition for places is tough, with the bigger personalities often getting picked on merit. That threatens to leave Asensio out in the cold.
Stamford Bridge could be the perfect home for Asensio to further his career and establish himself as one of the best on the planet. A player with his creative and entertaining skill-set would be extremely welcome here.
In a way, we hope that Real Madrid do push forward with their supposed plans to sign Neymar. If it lands Asensio in our lap, we could stomach seeing a European rival strengthen this summer.
